Mike Baker
Radiologist
MBChB, Dip Obs, MRCP, FRANZCR
Mike is a consultant radiologist at The Radiology Group, North Shore
Hospital and BreastScreen Waitemata Northland. He has a special interest
in breast imaging and intervention, and has been involved in
mammography for nearly 20 years, including screening and diagnostic
mammography.
He performs image-guided intervention, including hookwire
placements and stereotactic biopsies.
Mike came to New Zealand in 1978 from Zimbabwe, and since then
has been involved in all aspects of the Royal Australian and New
Zealand College of Radiologists. He is currently an examiner for the
college.
Ashwin Chunilal
Plastic Surgeon
MBChB, FRACS (Plastic Surgery)
Ashwin was born and brought up in Auckland and graduated from the
Auckland School of Medicine. After he completed his plastic surgical
training at Waikato and Middlemore Hospitals, he went overseas for
further fellowship experience.
He undertook a clinical fellowship at the Toronto General
Hospital for one year, where he did breast and head and neck
reconstruction as well as facial reanimation. Ashwin then moved to New
York, where he did another year-long clinical fellowship at the
internationally renowned Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Centre doing
breast, head and neck and other cancer reconstruction. He completed his
fellowship experience by working on Australia’s Gold Coast, at the Lotus
Institute, for six months doing cosmetic surgery.
On returning to Auckland, Ashwin based himself at Middlemore
Hospital as a consultant plastic surgeon, but also operates at North
Shore and Auckland City Hospitals on a regular basis and has recently
started private practice on the North Shore.
Ashwin has published and presented on various topics related to his field, and is married with three children.
Richard Harman
Breast Surgeon
MBChB FRACS (General Surgery)
Richard is a breast surgeon with appointments at North Shore Hospital
and Auckland Breast Centre. He completed his surgical training in
Auckland then undertook fellowship positions at the Royal Prince Alfred
Hospital, in Sydney, and the Mayo Clinic, in the USA.
Over the last 10 years he has developed the Breast Clinic at
North Shore Hospital and treated over 1000 women with breast cancer in
the public and private sectors. Active involvement with research has
lead to a thorough understanding of breast cancer treatment, and Richard
is the lead surgeon for BreastScreen Waitemata Northland.
Richard is an active member of the Royal Australasian College
of Surgeons Breast Section and married with three children.
Erica Whineray Kelly
Breast Surgeon
MBChB, FRACS (General Surgery)
Erica spent her high school years in Auckland before attending the Otago
School of Medicine. She completed her advanced training scheme in
general surgery in New Zealand, also working at the Tertiary Level
Breast Cancer Clinic at St Vincent’s University Hospital, in Dublin.
Since then, Erica has completed a two-year oncoplastic breast
surgical fellowship under the tutelage of both general and plastic
surgeons in Auckland. This training position was the first of its type
in Australasia. Erica has also travelled twice to Milan to the European
Institute of Oncology to attend breast cancer workshops.
Now a breast surgeon living on Auckland’s North Shore, Erica
works as a consultant breast surgeon for the Breast Screening Waitemata
Northland, and in private practice.
Erica is an active member of the Royal Australasian College of
Surgeons Breast Section, is on the executive of the Auckland Breast
Cancer Study Group, and with a special interest in lobular neoplasia,
has published and presented in her field. Erica is married with two
children.
